I see (W. Wertelecki, M.D.) a statuette probably with the intent to convey notions of Sub-Saharan ethnicity (prominent lips). From a medical perspective, this sculpture can be seen as an example of aprosopia, a rare condition for faces without ocular or nasal development. Anophthalmia and arhinia are extreme malformations – milder degrees are observed in instances of holoprosencephaly.
