Signs – Iris – Spots

Note what signs you see.

I see (W. Wertelecki, M.D.) an upward slant of the palpebral fissure, a dilated pupil (midriasis) and multiple pale gaps in the iris often called Brushfield spots. Such spots are often seen in children with Down syndrome who have light colored irides. Note that the sign is not specific to Down syndrome – it may be seen in normal and a variety of disorders.

Should you see other images of this patient, you will gain the impression that the diagnosis in this instance is Down syndrome.
