Holoprosencephaly Facies

I see (W. Wertelecki, M.D.) a facies of holoprosencephaly – this face tells me that the frontal lobe of the brain failed to divide into a left and frontal lobe. This is a good example of: 1) that the ancient had a good “clinical eye”; 2) that they knew dysmorphic associations (the cluster of visible facial signs, collectively referred to as facies, are described in the companion page); and 3) children with dysmorphic syndromes were considered to be “messages of Deities” and were cherished in contrast to Europeans who believed in the Devil and often burned the mother and the child while praying for the love of God.
