Gynecomastia

Note what signs you see.
I (W. Wertelecki, M.D.) see enlargement (in vernacular “swelling”) of both breasts (mammary glands) in a young child. Such sign is relatively common soon after birth, with emerging puberty or among elderly men. Tenderness, pain or nipple discharge is an indication to seek medical care. If observed during other periods of life of males or in females prior to the age of normal puberty, the possibility of an endoctine imbalance also requires medical investigation.
Please, also note the dysmorphic landmarks of the left ear.
PERSPECTIVE: The causes of gynecomastia may include environmental factors including medications, endocrine disorders, neoplasia, among others. Please see posted examples of neurofibromatosis and other genetic disorders associated with gynecomastia.
