Noses

I (W. Wertelecki, M.D.) see three distinct nose morphologies. The intent of this panel is to underscore the impact of the genomic nature of Semitic (large curved noses) and sub-Saharan African (flat noses with large nostrils) populations. Also shown is a prominent curved nose seen as a single autosomal dominant gene prevalent among the Habsburg royalty illustrated in a video.

Noses are a central element for the recognition of individuals as well as patients – this and other image panels are a component of a Dysmorphology webinar. Furthermore, a larger gallery of nasal images is under development. A gallery focused on the philtrum of the upper lip (a derivate of nasal development) and related anomalies is already available.
