I see (W. Wertelecki, M.D.) synophris (midline fusion of eyebrows) and a body corset similar to those prescribed for poliomyelitis victims – Frida had polio as a child but virtually recovered. Some medical historians asserted that Frida had spina bifida – I found no substantiation of such theory. However, malformations of the lower spine are very frequent (over 5%) and therefore some would say that they are “normal” unless they impact the wellbeing of the individual. Frida was the victim of the serious accident that “crushed” her spine.
