I (W. Wertelecki, M.D.) see a distended abdomen with protruding umbilicus – there is a venous pattern on the supra-umbilical abdominal area.

PERSPECTIVE: the causes of edema and ascitis during childhood are many – this degree of severe ascitis among other causes suggests acute nephrosis.
