Note what signs you see.
I (W. Wertelecki, M.D.) see a destroyed face (in Dysmorphology such event is called “DISRUPTION”).
PERSPECTIVE: When the amniotic membrane separating the fetus from the highly vascular chorion of the placenta is breached, facial and other structures may be destroyed by a similar process as the chorion invades the maternal endometrium. In this instance, note the well-formed ocular globe which implies that the embryogenesis of the frontal brain was normal. Consequently, the derivative ocular globe development appears also normal.
Less dramatic examples of disruptions are represented by amniotic bands associated with constrictions and amputations of limbs and digits. A more remote association may be with the “short umbilical cord”.
