Ear Auricle Microtia and Ear Tag

Note what signs you see.

I (W. Wertelecki, M.D.) see an obvious instance of microtia. This degree of underdevelopment of the auricle or pinna is most likely to be associated with atresia of external ear canal and malformations of the middle ear ossicles conducive to hearing loss.

PERSPECTIVE: Note the ear tag on the cheek (see other posted images of ear tags and related comments). This instance illustrates an important fact of embryogenesis – the ear tag is located along an imaginary line from the corner of the mouth to the opening of the external ear canal (meatus).
