Note what signs you see.
I see (W. Wertelecki, M.D.) what you see – a cleft of the soft palate or rather than cleft, a bilateral agenesis of the medial aspects of the soft palate because cleft may wrongly suggest that the palate was closed and reopened.
More importantly, compared with cleft lip-palate, instances of cleft palate alone are associated with a higher frequency of other concurrent malformations. In other words, isolated cleft palate is a frequent component of multiple congenital malformation syndromes.
